The FBI National Academy
![]() The FBI National Academy (NA) is the most esteemed leadership-based opportunity for executive law enforcement officials worldwide. The NA holds up to four (4) sessions annually at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. Law enforcement leaders from around the world, generally with the rank of lieutenant or above, are nominated by their agency head to attend based upon meeting specific criteria and proven leadership acumen. Pursuant to a rigorous selection process, inclusive of a thorough background investigation, nominees are notified if they are accepted. Attendees often wait many years to have the opportunity to be a part of such a rich tradition in excellence, and oftentimes go on to lead police departments throughout the world after graduating.
Each session lasts 10 weeks, and is comprised of approximately 220-250 law enforcement executives who are divided into six sections. While at the NA, attendees study a wide array of advanced academic courses ranging from leadership to counter-terrorism, while earning college credits which can be transferred to many accredited universities such as the University of San Diego, home to the renowned LEPSL Master's degree program. Attendees also participate in daily fitness, networking, events such as International Night, and take agency sponsored excursions to New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. I was a proud member of session 240, section 3, in 2010 and formed friendships that have lasted to this day. The yellow brick, as seen in the offices of some of the top law enforcement executives from around the world, is a symbol of having had the privilege to attend. Below is a link to the National Academy, to the left is a video highlighting my 10 week experience, and below are some still pictures from session 240. |
